Sights to See

  • The Bund - A road (Zhongshan) traveled by many because of the enriching architectures one may find. One could enjoy the view of lights at night and heights and design during the day as one walks up and down the street.








Shopping Spree

Shanghai is a famous destination in China for the shopcaholics. Haggling can be done on small stores or stalls but not usually in the department stores. Have caution in choosing as many imitations of branded goods thrive. Some cheap items may be on sale which makes nice souvenirs. Most often, as Shanghai is famous for its silken clothings, you are more likely to get authentic ones for it.


  • Yu Bazaar - It is usually come upon by those who want to visit the Yu Garden Here, many local crafts are for sale like fans, chopsticks, silk, tea and other souvenirs. Try to haggle and ask for bargains.


  • Nanjing Road Opened 24 hours a day, this 5.5 kilometer commercial street is dotted by hundreds of shops of good and some branded quality goods. Accessible by metro at several points and eastern side is for pedestrian only.


  • Hua Hua Road - Although the street is opened 24/7 most shops close at 10 pm. It beats the former by half a kilometer in length and the shops are the more of the trendy and fashionable ones.


  • Fangbang Road - Tagged as the Old Shanghai Shopping district located south of the Yu Garden and Bazaar, this pedestrian lane had not ceased to attract tourists to its stalls and shops. Clothes, bags, shoes and other accessories abound.


  • Dong Tai Road Antique Market - a good place to buy souvenirs and antiques. Caution should be observed with deliveries and better to buy and bring to make sure you have what you paid for. Haggle for good price. It is located at the intersection of Fu Xing Road.

Five and Four Stars Hotel

The Westin Bund Center - All good experience are for a good cost. A minimum of $186 per night won't be a bad investment to enjoy the luxury of this hotel and its proximity to shopping areas and tourist spots. The Portman Ritz-Carlton - A good place for business travelers for business travelers for three major reasons, first is the price- a minimum of $417 a night; second, a 24 hour business center and secretarial service and lastly, located in Nanjing,the business central. Two and Three Stars

Hanting Hotel - A hotel with a hundred year old history but has been renovated recently. Though it may be found in the center of the city, many people comments on getting lost so be sure of asking for direction or printing the Chinese name of the hotel to show to the taxi driver. Which you may get at www.sinohotel.com. A night will cost about $22 at the minimum on off peak season a good value for a few comfortable amenities like internet access.

Shanghai Metropole Hotel - Strategically located for shopping as it is close to Nanjing Road and the Bund is a walking distance. Metro station and Yuyuan are with in reach also. Address is at no.180, Jiang xi Zhong Road, Shanghai China.


Budget Lodging

Peace Garden Apartment- Whether it's a long stay or short one, this apartment is a cheap option. For a minimum of $39 a night, with free breakfast.

Malone American Cafe - American, Mexican, and Asian food is served for lunches and dinners and is a hang-out for many who want to catch a drink after work-hours. The Grape - serves Chinese and contemporary cuisine and is a fav among expats.
