Being the capital, Seoul is the most populous city and has become the center for politics, culture, and economy of South Korea. Its history dates back as far as 18 BC when it was first established on the basin of Han River. Many traditional structures were destroyed if not changed by the Japanese conquest and Korean War. With some sense of nationalism, those structures were rapidly restored and are proudly publicized in telenovelas.
