Malaysia is home to several flora and fauna, some even endangered species. The nation had tried to protect its virgin forests by putting up national parks and santuaries. At present, one has the privilege to enjoy the ecological wonders at its best
Sarawak
- Mulu National Park - a walk through the jungle will lead one to the beauty of some gigantic caves, one, the world's largest chamber. The park also takes pride in its waterfalls and Pinnacles.
- Niah National Park - it is spread within a forest where an archeological cave is located in which a 40,000 year old skull has been dug together with several other tools and ornaments. It is also a favorite destination for procuring birds' nests, an important ingredient in some Chinese delicacy.
- Bako National Park - the oldest national park in Malaysia which is considered very rich in plant and animal life forms. It has a sea side location in which beach combing can be considered as another enjoyable adventure aside from doing the 16 trails of the jungle.
- Similajau National Park
Endau-Rompin
Still a very much underdevelop destination but for a naturalist, it is befitting. It is a 48,905 hectares of virgin forest which is home to rare Sumatran Rhinoceros. Although the lowland forest is more than two centuries old, the park had only been recently established. Thus it is necessary to procure proper liscensing from National Park Corporation in Johor, to access the park. Usually the ones entertained are requests for research and fishing and is limited to some areas only. The park also boasts of its breathtaking waterfalls, the Upih Guling and Buaya Sangkut which are often used by wild beasts,like tigers, as source for drinking.
Taman Negara
Malaysia's premier national park which is home to hundreds of species of birds, insects, butterflies, fish and plants. It offers the adventurers several activities such as angling, bird watching, tribal visit, cave exploration, white water rafting, wild life observation, Jungle trekking, and mountain climbing.
Kinabalu
Graced by the height of the highest peak in Southeast Asia, this park also houses a diversified collection of flora and fauna, including the Rafflesia, the world's biggest flower. A climb to the summit usually takes two days of jungle tours and sight seeing.
