Japan classifies its airport into three classes. First class airports handles intercontinental flights. Five have been designated but only three of such type functions now. The second class airports handle regional and some international flights, mostly Korea or China. at present, 24 of these serve the country. The third class airports are usually the ones in remote islands and have smaller airstrips. There are fifty six of them existing to handle domestic feeder flights. Japan has more than fifty airports for domestic airlines. Most of the destinations are covered by Japan Airline Group (JAL) and All Nippon Airways Group(ANA) although other airline companies are providing a good competition in lowering the fare. Haneda Airport in Tokyo is by far the busiest hub for Japan's domestic flights.
Japan, being an archipelago is divided by the seas. It has 22 major sea ports and 11 ships carry passengers to them.
Taking the train is often a good choice to travel long distances fast. Japan's cities are interconnected by 27, 268 kms of railway system. Monorails and street cars also abound in some cities. Aside from the railways, subways are also widely used. Tokyo alone has 205 stations.
