  • Flights


Indonesia has about 11 international airports, six of which are found in the island of Java, 2 in Sumatra, 1 in Kalimantan, 1 Sulawesi, and 1 in Bali. However, some of this airports cater still to only domestic flights.Below are the airports having international flights. Click on each airport to see the airlines and their destinations.

International Airports in Java:

  • Soekarno -Hatta International Airport Cengkareng, Banten/Jakarta - has two terminals - I and II.Terminal II is the one catering to international flights and is further divided to three subterminals.
  • Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport, Jakarta - formerly used as major airport of Jakarta but was replaced.Currently it caters more of charter flights.


Other International Airports:

  • Minangkabau International Airport Ketaping/Padang, West Sumatra - international flights available her is only that of Tiger Airways for Singapore.
  • Sepinggan International Airport Balikpapan, East Kalimitan - majority of flights are domestic. Silk Air, under the management of Singapore Airlines provided flight to and from Singapore.


  • International Cruise

The second alternate route other than via air, which had been in use by many travels even centuries ago, is by sea. Being an archipelago, sea vessels have proven to be an effective way of getting into Indonesia. There are 8 major ports and harbors which include Cilacap, Cirebon, Jakarta, Kupang, Palembang, Semarang, Surabaya, and Makassar. There are four varied Indonesian Port Corporations. Each are designated a particular region with I starting in the west and IV at the east. Passenger ships or ferries travel from Singapore, and Malaysia to nearby islands.

  • Waterways

Indonesia has about 30 ports including the major ones. Aside from the ports, there are also about 21,579 kms of navigable internal waterways, mainly in Kalimantan, Sumatra, and Papua. The waterways help a lot in the transport system of these islands as they are not so progressive yet to develop railways and the rivers are too narrow to permit ships.
